IgA nephropathy is a chronic glomerulonephritis characterized by the deposition of IgA in the glomerular mesangium, leading to progressive renal damage. The disease course is variable, with some patients experiencing slow progression while others rapidly advance to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Factors influencing progression include persistent proteinuria, hypertension, and reduced glomerular filtration rate (GFR) at diagnosis.
