Counting down the most impactful news at major medical meetings, it’s the HCPLive Five! This episode focuses on 5 key updates from Maui Derm NP+PA Fall 2024 in Nashville.

The Maui Derm NP+PA Fall 2024 conference took place in Nashville, Tennessee, from September 20-23, 2024. The in-person conference was held at the Gaylord Opryland and provided a series of talks from experts in the field of dermatology on a variety of topics designed to update attendees on new research and exciting changes in the field.

The live meeting also allowed for a variety of opportunities for physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) to network, with social functions, exhibits, and product theater luncheons. The meeting allowed for greater awareness of the advances made in dermatology related to the treatment, diagnosis, and management of cosmetic and medical dermatologic conditions.

To cover the data and presentations at Maui Derm, the HCPLive Dermatology team was on-site in Nashville, conducting interviews and live coverage of both the sessions and the data presented. Most Promising New Drugs for Hidradenitis Suppurativa, with Raj Chovatiya, MD, PhD

Raj Chovatiya, MD, PhD, spoke on the topic of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), one of the most challenging clinical situations in the dermatology space. In this interview Chovatiya spoke about his talk’s highlights regarding medical and surgical management strategies for HS as well as the introduction of new treatments and recent data on pipeline therapies in the armamentarium.

Atypical Clinical Presentations of Blistering Disease, with Donna Culton, MD, PhD

In her interview, Donna Culton, MD, highlighted a series of blistering disease cases touched on in her conference talk which were designed to challenge attendees’ diagnostic and therapeutic acumen. Culton expressed that conditions such as pemphigus and bullous pemphigoid can often have atypical clinical presentations, noting several important facts for health care providers to remember.

Updates to the Treatment of Rosacea, with Hilary Baldwin, MD

A presentation titled ‘Acne and Rosacea Update 2024’ was featured at the conference and included 3 presenters discussing the latest approaches to treatment of acne and rosacea. Hilary Baldwin, MD, 1 such speaker, discussed in her interview with HCPLive several key highlights of her talk on rosacea that she hopes attendees will walk away with a greater understanding of, including unmet needs of patients with rosacea.

Melodie Young, ASN, RN: Updates on Therapies for Pediatric Patients with Psoriasis, PsA

Another talk titled ‘Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Update 2024’ highlighted recent updates in the treatment space for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis within the last year. One presenter was Melodie Young, ASN, RN, who urged the reviewing of psoriatic disease guidelines among parents looking into pediatric psoriasis. Young also highlighted other important elements of the talk, such as the fact that psoriasis often appears in toddlers and children following an infection.

Off-Label Treatment Options in Dermatology, with Matthew Zirwas, MD

Another interview from Maui Derm NP+PA Fall 2024 featured a discussion with Matthew Zirwas, MD, regarding his presentation’s review of recent literature in the dermatology field and of off-label treatment options for providers. Zirwas highlighted a variety of off-label therapy alternatives, noting significant challenges for such conditions as acne.
